About This Week’s Axiom Aesthetic
By Savannah Zona
What is inspiring us at Axiom this week?
Well, with early December quickly approaching, we can’t get our minds off of Art Basel-Miami Beach!
The world-renowned art fair begins December 6th and runs through the 9th.
Art Basel is a time for artists and galleries to make their marks and there is no better place to do it than sunny South Florida.
Originating in Basel, Switzerland, this creatively infused event is the place to be for artists and art enthusiasts alike. In 2002,
wanting to create an American location for the event, Art Basel creators Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner and Balz Hilt decided
to place the second Art Basel fair in Miami, Florida.
Showcasing one’s art at Basel is no easy task and each featured artist brings the best of their work to display. $3.5 billion were
exchanged at this bazaar last year and this year is set for similar success. The range of methods, mediums, and meanings vary
drastically throughout the festival so there is always something new to see and there is never a dull moment. Artists create
works from innovative as well as tradition mediums (i.e. string, sand, acrylic, canvas, and neon lights). This fair is not simply
about collecting and investing in original artwork, but rather it is an environment that seeks to edify and grow the careers of
artists. It is an effort to expose the world to artists and for artists to be exposed to the world.
Now, here is this week’s AXIOM Aesthetic:
“In 1970, three Basel gallerists put their passion and determination behind an ambitious vision to form an international art
fair. Now, Art Basel hosts world leading shows in Basel, Hong Kong, and Miami. Collectors, galleries, and artists connect and
are a driving force in supporting the role galleries play across the globe.
Nurturing the careers of artists. This year, at the Miami Beach show, artworks will be presented from across the globe. The
American show galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa show significant work from the masters
of Modern and contemporary art, as well as the new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations,
photographs, films and editioned works of the highest quality are display. Over 250 of the world’s leading galleries are
participating and will be drawing over 70,000 visitors.”
